"A highlight of our visit to Madeira"

We were immersed into the soulful world of Portuguese fado at this amazing Funchal restaurant. A wonderful family provides delicious local specialties; we had a tuna steak fried on a stone at the table and the espetada beef skewer, both outstanding. The waitstaff doubles as the performers with lively spirit and joy. Highly recommended.

"PRICELESS - SIMPLY THE BEST" 

First trip to Madeira.....
We asked our hotel receptionist for a recommendation for somewhere to hear Fado.......this was her immediate suggestion - oh my god - what a night....
A small restaurant with long tables - do not worry - the skill, expertise, warmth and joy exuded by Silvia will ensure you feel welcomed and comfortable with your neighbours all night.
Silvia helps with food choices and drinks - swift efficient service delivered with humour and sparkle.
The room fills up, Silvia carefully positions her guests with a supernatural insight of which groups will work well together "this will be a happy table!"
Soon everyone is seated and the guitarist's gently strum their rhythmic ancient tunes...... Silvia's uncle with the amazing face and beard shares his deep powerful voice with us, full of experience and emotion.
Silvia continues to serve food, drinks, take orders, answer the phone and then WOW - Suddenly she stops and the most sensational notes of passionate spellbinding singing come out of her mouth.
The whole room is mesmerized (tears were rolling down my face at this point) and she just belts out this amazing song - just fabulous.
We are then honoured to hear the heartfelt and most beautiful singing from Silvia's mum and her cousin - gorgeous, just absolutely gorgeous.
We are treated to several rounds of sensational Fado from the whole, lights are dimmed and the atmosphere is totally electric.
They glide between tables, working, serving, clearing, pouring and SINGING LIKE THEY HAVE ALL LIVED LIFE.
Such a special, authentic, warm evening - brilliant food, drink and service but most of all the love, kindness and joy in that little room - absolutely priceless.
Silvia had hugs for everyone as they left, everyone left as friends.
What just happened?
Is it really 2024?
Were we in the Madeira of the 1800's with Silvia's family sharing their hospitality and their gift of Fado?
Whatever it was it was pure, simple, human magic.

Unbedingt empfehlenswerte Kombination aus Kulinarik, Musik und Ambiente

Tolles Essen, stimmungsvoller Abend, originelle Einrichtung und ganz viel Herz! Das sympathische "Familienunternehmen" bezauberte uns mit Fadogesang, Gitarrenmusik und herzlichem Service. Es war ein ganz besonderes Erlebnis. Die internationalen Gäste aus ganz Europa erlebten einen wundervollen Abend. Wir kommen gerne wieder!

"Fantantastic Food and Fado evening in the Old Town"

We visited this restaurant at the beginning of our holiday. We had a wonderful experience. The food was excellent. This is a family run business and they all get involved. They really care about their customers. Nothing was too much trouble. There was fado music and singing. We enjoyed it so much that we booked to go again. Second time around and success again!! Love and best wishes to them all. When we return to Funchal we will definately go back and dine with them again.

"Fantastic!!!"

Fantastic fado restaurant. Informal, charming, family-run, incredibly atmospheric restaurant, very pleasant service. Here we felt really welcome and the food was very good. Incredibly pleasant premises. On tripadviser, the fado restaurant next door had a better score. This was completely incomprehensible to us. On my next visit to Madeira - I guarantee that I will book a table at this restaurant. There were many different people who sang fado on this evening, it also did very well. We think we got good value for money, something we don't think about the restaurant next door. It was more expensive and inferior. Thank you for us and we will see you again!
